On the morning of March 28, President Shao Yaliang met with Mr.James P. Gorman, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of Morgan Stanley, and his accompany.
He welcomed Mr. Gorman and his group’s visit by briefing them on the background and history of SIG.. He said,in recent years, as the frontier in the construction of Shanghai international finance center, SIG has been keeping the foothold of positioning itself a strategic-holding financial investment group, and spent great efforts in the enhancement of market-oriented business management skills. After a series of mergers and acquisitions, the group has strategically divided the capital in the layout of five sections and three levels. Meanwhile, SIG has been strongly growing its major business – finance business by further deepening the function as the comprehensive financial platform; it has been actively made full use of the advantages of the stated-owned financial institution in leading, expanding and leveraging by expanding the operational functions of financial resources; it has been playing an important role in serving the whole city in the march of Innovation Drive and Development Transformation by constantly completing the function of financial service system and integrating various social resources to boost economic development through market-oriented operation. In coming days, to promote the internalized development, SIG will strengthen the cooperation and communication with famous overseas financial institutions including Morgan Stanley so as to better cater to and serve the needs of the construction of Shanghai international financial center.
Gorman expressed his gratitude to Mr. Shao and introduced updates on Morgan Stanley’s businesses in China. He emphasized that SIG, as a giant-sized financial investment group with substantial influence and abundant financial resources, owns lots of excellent finance institutions such as Shanghai Pudong Development Bank, Guotaijunan Securities and Shanghai Trust. Morgan Stanley is a global leading international financial service provider, with its business covering investment banking, securities, investment management and wealth management. In recent years, Morgan Stanley, at home and abroad, particularly in the underwriting business in Asia-Pacific, has achieved great success and it has provided overseas IPO services for a batch of Chinese companies. Therefore, Morgan Stanley is interested in the opportunity to provide SIG and its subsidiary companies overseas financing, wealth management and other financial services.
During the meeting, both sides also exchanged their views on the prospects of international and domestic economic situation and discussed potential cooperation opportunities. Mr. Zhu Zhongqun, assistant to President of SIG, Mr. Sun Wei, Managing Director & co-CEO of Asia-Pacific Region of Morgan Stanley and relative parties from Administrative Department and Financial Business Management Department of SIG were also atteded the meeting.
