Holding Ground for Spring: SIG's Staff on Duty Provides Strong Support amid Epidemic Outbreak

The smokeless battle against COVID-19 in Shanghai has come to the decisive stage of case elimination. To win the tough battle and carry out the "case elimination" action, Party members and officials in Shanghai have charged ahead at the call of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government. On another battlefield, many have been working day and night to guard their enterprises.

Displaying the splendor of females with perseverance

Tang Jingyi, a senior manager at the Department of Administration of SIG, has stuck to her post since SIG launched the job rotation system and the AB work coordination system in late March, demonstrating the power of females and their strong sense of responsibility. She was a "deliverywoman" for the colleagues working from home: upon receiving the notice of building lockdown, she ran from floor to floor and office to office to get office supplies for colleagues, and often worked late into night. She was a "close friend" of the staff on duty in SIG Mansion: she was responsible for purchasing living supplies for a total of 30 staff members and workers on posts such as security, property, housekeeping and restaurant, and appeasing their emotions. She was an assiduous "building leader": after a positive case was found in Tower B, she immediately convened a meeting to discuss solutions and modify the work processes of meal receiving, disinfection and cleaning, to minimize the risk of Tower A. She was everywhere from conveying policies and notices of epidemic control to serving the staff from northern China with steaming hot dumpling. "Though the epidemic control work is complicated and hard, I must better perform my duty," she said. While coordinating epidemic control, she has organized the external promotion of SIG, including brochure release and information disclosure, shouldering important tasks and demonstrating her sense of responsibility as a Party member.

Being duty bound, demonstrating "hardcore power"

Dai Jiawei at the Information Center of the Department of Administration of SIG has been on duty in SIG Mansion for nearly one month. SIG's staff is now working from home. To keep SIG's business running, he has worked meticulously to ensure basic physical platforms and databases of information systems operate steadily and basic support work including teleconference support progresses smoothly. According to the annual work schedule, the IT development of SIG is in progress, including the preparation for Phase 2 of the fund management system, the upgrading of the financial system, the optimization of the human resources system, and the development of the disaster backup and recovery system. The schedule of financial system upgrading was tight due to the epidemic outbreak, and the project staff could only work from home at night. To ensure the progress of this project, Dai frequently coordinated with the project engineers to deploy six application servers, set up the testing environment, back up databases, restore the testing environment and upgrade system kits. He often worked till the next morning and finally caught up the schedule. When SIG's leaders extended greetings via vide link, he said smilingly, "I'm doing great, living supplies here and those at home were provided by the group, sometimes I played badminton and table tennis with colleagues, so life here is colorful. Don't worry about me, sir."

Preferring being a simple "screw"

Xu Jun at the Information Center of the Information Center of the Department of Administration of SIG was also on duty. He usually provides technical support to meetings and goes wherever he is needed. Since the epidemic outbreak, heated site meetings have been replaced by video conferences. To provide support for SIG to work from home and make decisions online, he have kept solving problems arising at teleconferences, ensured remote maintenance by system administrators in case of any emergency, and kept channels of information system maintenance unimpeded and network stable. "My work is ordinary but I'm worried that network disconnection may affect the colleagues working from home. My previous leader said everything would be fine if we had no problems." Xu has stayed true to his mission, shouldered new responsibility and served as a never-rusting "screw" on his post.

Sacrificing personal interests for public interests without hesitation

Go where there is epidemic, fight it on posts. The building of Shanghai State-Owned Assets Management Co., Ltd. (SSAM) in Nandan Road is in the area subject to the second-round lockdown in Puxi, and the core IT machine room in the building is the "heart" of telecommuting for SSAM. Upon receiving the notice on the lockdown of Puxi, to keep production running, Ding Wenjie at the Administration Department immediately rushed to the company on March 31 and took on the heavy responsibility of providing logistics support, including machine room maintenance and stamping control. He has a baby that was just six months old. Facing the shortage of milk and diapers, his wife had to take care of the baby alone as she did all housework. Sometimes the baby cried at midnight, Ding comforted his wife by phone. "Hang in there, everything will be fine after the epidemic…" He has sacrificed his personal interests for public interests by holding the ground firmly amid the epidemic outbreak, keeping SSAM's business running with perseverance and contributing to Shanghai's victory against the epidemic.

Growing towards sunlight

Zhao Qingwei, another staff member on duty from the Administration Department of SSAM, is an activist of Party membership. He has worked around the clock, providing support such as remote software assistance, system development communication and meeting support. Each time her parents called him, he reported only what was good, "Dad and mom, everything is fine with me, just take care of yourselves, don't worry about me…" Whenever being asked by leaders if they had any difficulty, he replied briefly, "No, thank you, sir." As conditions were harsh when he was on duty, he could have a bath only every three or four days, it was quite common that he could not sleep for a whole night as he was in a closed, windowless meeting room and occasionally needed to get express parcels at 3 or 4 p.m. But he has forged ahead regardless of hardships and perils, honoring his commitments to the Party organization by practical action and in high spirits.

Sticking to the front, striving to be an "all-rounder"

Chen Jingdong was on duty at the headquarters of SIG Asset Management Co., Ltd. (SIGAM). On March 28, he was on the way to SIG for volunteer equipment. After the release of the notice on the lockdown of Puxi, based on the requirements of coordinating epidemic control with business operation, he became the best person to stay at the company to coordinate secretarial work, administration & logistics and auxiliary business, and to provide IT support for telecommuting. Upon receiving the work adjustment, he returned home, packed up and reported for duty. At the company, he kept the network and information system operating soundly, and responded to 60 online appeals for IT support from staff. He carefully analyzed problems such as the sudden disconnection of the intranet, the VPN failure reported by a lot of extranet users and the suspension of several information projects, worked out solutions, and solved these problems in an integrated way, thereby ensuring the business continuity of the company, and making good preparation for restarting the IT work after production resumption. On a compliance basis, by video link, he provided the business department with remote business material stamping and submission services, assisted the middle department in field operation, and delivered anti-epidemic supplies and key materials. This young and low-profile guy has stuck to the front and taken on responsibility by action.

Amid the epidemic outbreak, they have devoted themselves to duties far away from home, taken on responsibilities, worked day and night in the frontline of closedown, and made extraordinary achievements on ordinary posts, thus building a solid defensive line to keep SIG running.
