Amazing Volunteers of SIG

With the goal of eliminating COVID-19 cases socially, Shanghai has been going all out for epidemic prevention and control. Recently the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee has issued the Open Letter to All CPC Members in Shanghai, calling all Party members in Shanghai to go into action, work around the clock, and fully devote themselves to the serious battle against the epidemic. Previously the Organization Department of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee had also issued a letter entitled Demonstrating Special Responsibility in the Tough Battle to all Party members in Shanghai, calling on them to take on special responsibility in the special period, endure all hardships and go all out to win the tough battle against the epidemic!

Party organizations and Party members of state-owned enterprises in Shanghai have striven to be pioneers at the crucial moment of epidemic prevention and control, responded to calls, revealed their identities, set good examples and stuck to their posts to meet the emergency needs of Shanghai amid the epidemic outbreak.

According to the work plan of the Organization Department of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and the CPC Committee of the Shanghai Municipal State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission calling for enterprises under municipal supervision to organize volunteers to aid the frontline fight against the epidemic, the CPC SIG Committee acted promptly, requiring that SIG's Party organizations at all levels, as well as its Party members and executives should go where they are needed most to assist in Shanghai's epidemic prevention and control. A volunteer service team, made up of staff from SIG's headquarters and subsidiaries, as well as funds and hotels under SIG, was assembled immediately for the intense fight against the epidemic.

Sparing no efforts on epidemic prevention and control

Since the current epidemic outbreak, Chen Zhenpeng, Director of the Organization Department of the CPC SIG Committee, has assisted his community in volunteer work, including nucleic acid testing, supplies carrying and resident service. Upon receiving a notice from the Organization Department of the CPC Jing'an District Committee on April 16, he immediately hurried to the Zhangjiazhai Neighborhood Committee, Shimen Second Road Sub-district he would assist. There are nearly 3,000 residents in the large international communities and old-fashioned residential communities governed by the Zhangjiazhai Neighborhood Committee, the communities have complicated internal structures, and the epidemic situation was grim and complex in the communities. Upon reporting to the neighborhood committee, he immediately devoted himself to new volunteer work. He helped to carry vegetables, rice, oils and other supplies, scanned nucleic acid test code for 500-600 residents, stood in the scorching sun for 3-4 hours, often trotted in a hurry to deliver test supplies to 8-9 nucleic acid test points in the community, and sometimes went upstairs six-floor buildings closed down due to positive cases to deliver living supplies.

As the leader of the volunteer team, after finishing a whole day of volunteer work, he would communicate with the team members in the volunteer WeChat group of SIG, to find out their working and living conditions, inspire them and boost their confidence.

An amazing volunteer of SIG

On April 16, He Lei, who joined the anti-epidemic volunteer service team of SIG less than a day ago, reported to the Weifang Sub-district Office upon receiving a notice from the Organization Department of the CPC Committee of Pudong New Area. Weifang Residential Area III under the sub-district is a 40-year-old community with over 1,000 households and over 2,300 residents. Hit hard by the epidemic in Pudong New Area, the community shoulders the heavy task of epidemic prevention and control. At 7 a.m. every day, He guided residents in doing nucleic acid tests and kept order until noon. Then in the afternoon, he carried supplies, sometimes he barely had a few bites for lunch before going to carry packs upon receiving an order and worked till sunset. In spite of doing regular workouts, he was often exhausted. "This is normal. As it is getting warm, many supplies are not easy to preserve and must be unloaded in time. Two or three truckloads of supplies need to be unloaded every day at the busiest time. We must hold on even we are tired out, over 1,000 households are waiting to be fed after all." As a member of the transfer team, he has participated in emergency transfer three times. In order not to miss any emergency notice, he set the ringtone to the maximum before sleeping every night.

Now the volunteer from SIG is known to many residents in Weifang Residential Area III. "This guy is amazing, you can turn to him whenever you are in trouble! I remember the back of his protective suit reads 'SIG', so you can find him easily."

A small "screw"

Learning the Shanghai Municipal State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission was badly in need of some frontline anti-epidemic volunteers, Wu Shumin from the CPC Committee of Shanghai State-Owned Assets Management Co., Ltd. signed up as a member of the first volunteer team. The next day he rushed to the support of Gaodong Town upon receiving a notice from the Organization Department of the CPC Committee of Pudong New Area. That night Gaodong held a volunteer rally meeting and established a temporary Party branch for municipal volunteer officials and executives. Wu was appointed as a member of the temporary Party branch.

Since joining the frontline fight against the epidemic, Wu has lived and eaten with officials of the village committee, collected anti-epidemic and test supplies together with other volunteers, and distributed living supplies and necessities from the government. On April 19, he assisted the village committee in entry & exit control, which is vital to risk control. It is a must to control the entry and exit of people and things to contain the sources of infection and ensure that the responsibility of entry & exit control is fulfilled, and to implement the spirit of relevant documents to enable villagers to resume work and production and seek medical treatment. "I often came across uncooperative villagers, at that time we should control our temper, patiently explain policies to them and appease their emotions."

The whole village needed a nucleic acid test on April 22. Wu made preparation and conducted disinfection along with officials of the village committee and volunteers from 6 a.m., and assisted medical workers in completing the test. "Neither I nor officials of the village committee, volunteers and medical workers took a break during the six hours," he said. "I was sometimes worn out in the frontline in these days, but as a Party member, I hope to make my humble contributions to the victory against the epidemic as, and serve as a small 'screw'."

I was in Hubei in 2020 and now in Shanghai

Deng Liexin, a young Party member of Guoxin Venture Capital, served as a volunteer for more than two months in his hometown-Hubei. After two years, facing the increasingly grim epidemic situation of Shanghai since April, he signed up to join SIG's anti-epidemic volunteer service team without hesitation.

On April 17, upon arrival at Weifang Residential Area Sub-district which he would assist, he faced the primary task of transferring over 100 positive-tested residents governed by the Yangjiadu Neighborhood Committee. But there were only five committee officials and volunteers responsible for the transfer. Facing all sorts of difficulties such as high transfer risk, the large number of transferred residents, anxieties and irritations of transferred residents, he carefully listened to the difficulties and needs of the transferred residents, patiently told them the reason for the transfer, the destination and the notes, and appeased their emotions. At around 1 a.m., the transfer in five bus shuttles was finally completed, with all the patients transferred safe and sound, and he could finally take off the sweat-soaked protective suit and have a hot meal.

Aside from the transfer, Deng was responsible for getting prescriptions filled for dozens of residents in the community. After finding out their medication needs, he hurried to a hospital to get prescriptions filled and packed medicines before delivering them from door to door. Residents all gave thumbs-up and applause to this warm, considerate and meticulous volunteer, saying he was tough and thoughtful.

A volunteer sleeping in his car

On the night of April 16, arranged by the Organization Department of the CPC Committee of Pudong New Area, Mao Yadong from GP Capital reported to the local neighborhood committee--Changdao Neighborhood Committee, Puxing Road Sub-district as a volunteer. As a key member of the company's epidemic prevention and control team during the epidemic outbreak in 2020, he with rich experience was unanimously elected temporary Secretary of the Party Branch of the Changdao Neighborhood Committee. While coordinating the committee's epidemic prevention efforts, he took the lead in undertaking high-risk work such as assisting in transfer positive-tested residents. He often said "we must always be there and stay concentrated as volunteers". Once when he was handing out supplies, he saw a positive-tested resident about to be transferred and went up to appease and communicate with him. As he often contacted positive-tested residents, in order not to disturb his family, he stayed overnight in his car after a whole day of busy work…

Getting prescriptions filled for residents

Wang Ke at Shanghai SITICO Assets Management Co., Ltd. was arranged by the Organization Department of the CPC Committee of Pudong New Area to provide volunteer services at the Neighborhood Committee of Shangnan Residential Area XII, Zhoujiadu Sub-district where he lived. After finding out the overall situation of the community, he learned that this is an aging community home to many patients with chronic diseases, and 40% of its residents are aged 65 or above. He, who previously studied pharmacy at a university, offered to get prescriptions filled for residents, and served over 30 households in the first day. "Most elderly residents use medical insurance cards rather than mobile phones to buy medicines, which needs us to be more caring and patient. For example, we paid for them first and helped them buy medicines online and offline as it was inconvenient to get medicines at the very time."

On the noon of April 18, he learned from a community police officer that an elderly resident living alone was running out of medicines when he was assisting medical workers in a nucleic acid test! He searched ways to buy medicines online, but failed to find any similar to those that the resident had taken for long due to the shortage of supplies during epidemic control. Through the efforts of relevant sides, he reached a specialist, who made an alternative prescription for the resident based on his underlying diseases and medication! The life-saving medicines were finally found. He, who was still worried, delivered medicines to door and repeated medication instructions before leaving.

A thinking report written in the frontline

On April 16, Cui Xinyu, a member of SIG's volunteer team and a staff member of Shanghai State-Owned Assets Management Co., Ltd., reported to the Neighborhood Committee of Hua Mansion, Taopu Town, Putuo District under the arrangement of the Organization Department of the CPC Committee of Putuo District, and then joined the committee's epidemic prevention and control efforts. As an activist of Party membership, he wrote this thinking report to the Party organization in excitement in his ninth day as a volunteer.

Standing out at the crucial moment

On April 16, arranged by the Organization Department of the CPC Committee of Jing'an District, Lu Wenqi at SIG Asset Management Co., Ltd. reported to the working group of Shimen Second Road Sub-district in Hengfeng Residential Area to join the community's fight against the epidemic. Hengfeng Residential Area is an aged one that is facing grim and complex epidemic situation. The working group moved in on March 23. As a newcomer, Lu quickly got involved, found out the community's situation proactively and assisted in fulfilling tasks. In the second day after his arrival, he undertook the planning and preparation of the radio programs run by the neighborhood committee. On April 19, he successful completed the collection, editing and broadcasting of news for the morning and midday programs for the first time, which would keep residents updated on epidemic control.

Emergencies may emerge anytime due to the grim epidemic situation in the frontline. Early on the morning of his third day on the working group, Lu learned that an old contact of a positive-tested resident to be transferred fell by his bed and could not stand up. Without hesitation, Lu put on his protective suit and a mask, and followed the secretary of the general Party branch of the residential area to the home of the old contact, where he saw his left leg stuck under the bed. Under the emergency, Lu held his arms from the side of the head, patiently appeasing his emotions and guiding him in relaxing. Those coming to help lifted him to bed together.

Lu was unanimously hailed as a volunteer that can stand out and rise to challenges at crucial moments.

Now members of SIG's volunteer service team are working around the clock in the frontline against the epidemic. The bugle to win the decisive battle against the epidemic has been sounded as Shanghai's actions to eliminate COVID-19 cases socially are in full swing. Under the strong leadership of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, the whole of SIG will take on its due mission and responsibility as a state-owned enterprise, and make its due contributions to winning the tough battle against the epidemic.
